How to Become in the Top 0.01% of Men
The character of James Bond is often used as a style icon,
but there are five specific traits men can take away from the character
to put themselves in the top 0.01% of all men.
It is important to remember that James Bond is just a normal guy with
a job—he doesn’t have superpowers,
a cool armored suit, or billions of dollars.
These are practical traits he cultivated over his career,
and you can cultivate them as well.
1. Capability
At a foundational level, the Bond archetype is highly capable.
He is very fit, but not a giant bodybuilder,
and he is well-trained without needing to be the ultimate expert
in any one single thing.
He has gone out of his way to learn a variety of skills to a sufficient
level where he can execute them effectively.
- Simply getting exercise three to four days a week already puts you in the top 24% of all men.
- This isn’t just about “beach muscles”; it is about capability on the job and in everyday life.
- Being physically fit and highly capable has a gravitational pull. These are signs of safety, security, and resilience that naturally imbue trust from others.
To take control of your life, you need to take control of your healthy
habits and start cultivating new skills and areas of interest.
2. Preparation
While the films rarely show Bond preparing for a mission
because it doesn’t always make for good television,
preparation is a core trait.
Most men go into life’s most critical missions
without doing any preparation whatsoever.
You should be walking the route ahead of time.
When you have an interview, do a mock interview with a friend.
When you have a presentation at work,
present it to an empty room and run through the slides
before the big day.
When you go on a date,
figure out your contingency plans ahead of time.
Legendary performances are always backed by extensive,
unseen rehearsal and preparation.
3. Composure
Capability plus preparation equals composure.
Whenever James Bond goes into a chaotic situation—a chase,
a high-stakes game, or a conflict—he is cool, calm, and collected.
This is entirely because he has built the capability
and prepared ahead of time.
You can build this level of composure by layering these steps:
- First, build your preparation and capability.
- Second, put yourself out there and test your skills.
- Test them in a way that stretches your ability, rather than testing them to such a degree that you get crushed on impact.
4. Being Present
Beyond just being in a “flow state” during action,
the Bond archetype is completely present in the moment.
Whether he is playing cards, teaching someone a skill,
or spending time with a love interest, he is focused.
We live in a highly distracted world where attention spans
have shortened to seconds,
and people constantly pacify themselves with screens
instead of interacting with the people right in front of them.
Overcoming this is incredibly simple:
put your phone away and be present in the moment,
especially when you are with family, out on a date,
or experiencing an event in real life.
5. Initiative
The fifth trait is initiative: he doesn’t ask for permission;
he simply takes action.
Because Bond has built a reputation for being prepared,
composed, capable, and present, he has earned a great deal
of trust to act on his own judgment and deliver results.
A lot of men today fail to live up to their potential
because they either do not take initiative when they can,
or they have not built the four fundamental traits required
to successfully take that initiative and break through.
By building on the first four fundamental traits,
you prepare yourself to strike when the iron is hot.
While life is hard, showing up capable, present, composed,
prepared, and willing to take initiative is exactly
what will put you in the top 0.01% of all men.
