These Quotes Will Help You Outsmart and Outsurvive Any Narcissist

I had a very narcissistic friend who first seemed so rational and charming.

He wanted to befriend me immediately, and my intuition gave me a signal.

I am not the type of person to believe easily,

so I kept my distance to study and get to know him first.

I hear stories about narcissism a lot;

I never imagined I would stumble across a person with this disorder.

I don’t judge people, but I try to know and understand them

because humans, in general, intrigue me.

From my experience with him,

I realized that dealing with a narcissist is very difficult and energy-draining.

They are like a disease that keeps on making your life

worse every day, but they tell you that they love you

and care about you.

Their self-centered behavior, manipulation, and gaslighting

can make a hell out of your life.

You will deal with many conflicting emotions, question your sanity,

and sometimes become a puppet.

It is very crucial to know a narcissist

and keep your distance from them before it is too late.

No one has ever got into a relationship or friendship

with a narcissist and never regretted it.

The quotes in this article are meant to help you know more about them.

It is up to you to deal with them or keep your distance.

Their Nature

“Narcissism has more in common with self-hatred than with self-admiration.”

"Narcissism has more in common with self-hatred than with self-admiration."

I gained a deeper understanding of the nature of Narcissism

from a book by Robert Greene called The Laws of Human Nature.

I recommend you read it. In that book,

he explained how narcissistic people are helpless in their nature

because their issues are deeply rooted in childhood.

When a child doesn’t receive love or attention from the start

and is treated poorly or maybe beaten,

he/she is more likely to develop Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD).

For more in-depth information, you can read a study by NCBI here.

When you understand where their issues stem from, their behaviours stop annoying you.

“No matter how socially skilled an extreme narcissist is, he has a major attachment dysfunction. The extreme narcissist is frozen in childhood.”

You can see that from their cold stare and dead eyes.

Their soul is frozen in their childhood; that’s why they see people as pawns.

The attention they get from people is to fuel their disorder and make them feel alive.

One of my managers was like this.

He wasn’t a deep narcissist,

but I observed from his previous relationships that didn’t last long that his soul feeds on attention.

“Narcissists would rather lie and humiliate you than admit that they were in the wrong.”

Deep narcissists see themselves as gods

and care too much about their image.

If people could see their true selves, no one would want to interact with them.

“Underneath the so-called narcissistic personality is definitely shame and the paralyzing fear.”

They are ashamed of themselves;

that’s why they are out there searching for people who would admire them

and tell them they are loved and cherished.

Take none of their harmful behaviors personally. It is more about them

“Narcissism is voluntary blindness, an agreement not to look beneath the surface.”

They are afraid of their own nature and self.

I discovered that the best way to discover if a person is a narcissist

or not is to ask them about themselves.

Narcissistic people are a lot more delusional.

Dealing with and Outsmarting a narcissist

“The best way to upset a narcissist is by ignoring him.”

"The best way to upset a narcissist is by ignoring him."

You can’t change them, so keep your distance from them.

From what I understood, dealing with narcissistic people is that they think everyone loves them.

When you ignore them, it is like flipping their world upside down.

“Some people think that the world revolves around them, but the Sun is not the center of the universe.”

If you tell that to a narcissist, they will take it as an insult.

In their minds, they are heroes and legends, regardless of the harm they cause to others.

I once shared with a friend the concept of the MBTI personality type.

He rejected it and got upset.

I was surprised because the 16 personality types weren’t a big deal,

and we used them for fun only.

He later said his type was special.

I understood that he doesn’t want to be categorized with others, which made me laugh.

“Withhold admiration from a narcissist and be disliked. Give it and be treated with indifference.”

It is that simple.

That’s the key to a peaceful life and the best way to deal with them.

Since you can’t change them or let them see their behavior, let them dislike you.

Relationships

“Relationships with narcissists are held in place by the hope of a ‘someday better,’ with little evidence to support it will ever arrive.”

"Relationships with narcissists are held in place by the hope of a ‘someday better,’ with little evidence to support it will ever arrive."

No matter what they tell you, never believe it; instead, watch their actions.

They will keep you hooked on the future so that you tolerate their harmful behaviors.

However, if a person genuinely loves and cares about you,

their actions will speak louder.

Don’t be fooled by their promises,

because once they’ve had their way with you, they’ll move on to someone else.

“You can teach a narcissist to show up on time, but you can’t train them to listen once they get there.”

What interests them the most is hearing their people talk about them.

Their children suffer the most because they also want to be admired by them.

Empathy is not in their dictionary.

Final thoughts

You will eventually deal with a narcissistic person who makes you question many things.

The best way to deal with narcissism is not to deal with it.

Leave them and start a new life because even if you hurt them back,

the cycle will only continue.

You don’t want to spend your life battling them; it leads to nothing.

Simply, ignore them and move on with your life.
