The Harsh Truth About People—These Quotes Will Open Your Eyes
Understanding people and their behavior is a crucial skill in today’s world.
Especially in our current time,
we no longer communicate in person but through the internet.
Becoming socially intelligent can help you build better relationships,
communicate effectively, and navigate social situations
with ease and finesse.
More importantly, it will make you smarter,
help you avoid social manipulation,
and help you predict people’s behaviors and actions.
I wasn’t the socially intelligent type of person
who would easily detect manipulation,
and that led to a lot of difficult times.
I had to read books, listen to podcasts, and watch videos
to understand that people aren’t who they pretend to be.
They wear masks and act friendly to disguise their true nature.
This realization hurts, but it opened my eyes.

People
Choosing who you surround yourself with is crucial.
It takes time and effort to find your people and maintain that friendship.
I’ve had some bad friendships throughout the years;
they’ve made me appreciate the good friendships I have.
One quote that stuck with me about who you surround yourself with is:
“Don’t sit at a table where they talk about others, because when you get up, you are the next topic.”
We all know these people whose main focus is just others’ lives.
I had one like this, and he is so envious of others.
You are not the only person that he talks badly about,
but everyone who triggers his insecurities.
I learned earlier to maintain distance from such people as soon as possible.
Other quotes about people that will open your eyes are:
“We must learn who is gold and who is simply gold-plated.”
“People start hating you when they cannot control you.”
I received some hate from my family members when I refused
to live my life based on their rules and to pursue my dreams.
It sparked a lot of problems, but I simply realized the harsh truth:
some people will love you when you are beneficial to them.
“Someone you met 3 weeks ago can have better intentions than someone you met 3 years ago. Don’t let time fool you!”
I have known people for years who did nothing but bring me down.
Then, I met my college colleagues, and they stood by my side, motivating me to pursue my dreams.
“A fake friend can cause much more damage than a real enemy.”
Not everyone is your friend, even if they act like that.
Everyone will one day realize that the person they had high hopes
for was fake and had hidden intentions.
I realized this harsh truth very early in primary school.
“Bad company corrupts good character.”
“Stay away from people who only use you for their needs.”
Karma
Whatever you give will return to you in a way you never expected.
I met a lot of delusional people who think they are the center of the universe and can do whatever they want.
One thing they don’t realize is that mistreating people can’t
be tolerated and still expect a peaceful life. That’s not how it works.
One of the quotes that stuck with me is:
“Mistreating people, then avoiding communication, is not protecting your peace; it’s avoiding accountability.”
Self-delusion
The most important phase in growth is when you confront
your true self and the part you kept hidden from yourself.
I used to think I was perfect till I realized that was an illusion.
I can never be perfect, but I can be whole.
I am just like everyone else with insecurities, traumas, and bad behaviors.
But I also realized that’s where my gifts lie.
These are some of the harsh quotes that opened my eyes:
“Stop justifying your own destruction with fake promises of ‘I’ll stop tomorrow’.”
“Your children will become who you are; so be who you want them to be.”
“Short-term pleasure deceives you, but long-term growth fulfills you.”
“Never let your loyalty make a fool of you.”
We sometimes think we are being good people,
but we are just deceiving ourselves.
I learned that when the truth is so harsh, people lie to themselves.
Peace of mind
“He who has peace of mind disturbs neither himself nor others.”
We all strive to achieve a peaceful and calm state of mind.
Life is beautiful when you are at peace with yourself and your surroundings.
I meditate occasionally, go to the gym, hike, work on my projects,
and journal my thoughts and dreams.
These habits give me inner peace.
“The less you respond to negative people, the more peaceful your life will become.”
Not everything deserves your attention.
Learn to ignore people and focus on what truly matters.
“You are the books you read, the films you watch, the music you listen to, the people you spend time with, and the conversations you engage in. Choose wisely what you feed your mind.”
“Don’t waste words on people who deserve your silence.”
‘”NO” is not a negative word sometimes. Saying “NO” can save you from life’s greatest pain.’
Life will be easier when you master saying “No” without needing
to explain yourself.
I had to cultivate the strength and courage to just say no in my social interactions.
Life became simpler ever since.
“Being too friendly invites a lot of disrespect.”
I was the type of person who aimed to be liked until I realized it only brings disrespect.
Be yourself and stay true to your principles.
Past
“Someone out there is discussing the old you because they have no access to the new you.”
If you keep your heart and they leave,
be sure they will always come back; you should never answer.
I had this experience where my ex got back in my life, and I said no.
She then went to spread lies, but I didn’t care and just ignored everything.
The only answer to everything from your past is no.
Happiness
“The key to life is knowing who has your back and who doesn’t.”
One of life’s puzzles is that you will never truly know who loves you
and has your back, but if you do, consider yourself blessed.
“Somebody is mad at you right now because you picked peace over drama and distance over disrespect.”
“You’re creating problems that aren’t there. Stop overthinking. Get out of your own thought process and live in the present.”
We all have our moments of overthinking, and the solution I’ve found
is to take action.
Almost 99% of the things I overthink don’t happen.
I realized that I can be my own source of misery.
Growth and choices
Throughout your life, you will face numerous choices and tough decisions.
There are moments where the right decision is the tough one.
Here are the quotes I reflect on that can open your eyes:
“You deserve to be with someone who looks at you like they’ve won the lottery.”
“Don’t reveal your next move; they’re still gossiping about the previous you.”
“Take criticism seriously, but not personally. If there is truth or merit in the criticism, try to learn from it. Otherwise, let it roll right off you.”
“A man who can do it all alone is dangerous.”
“Without the will to carry out good intentions, your future will mirror your past.”
“No one works harder than someone who hates asking people for help.”
“If you’re not willing to learn, no one can help you. If you’re determined to learn, no one can stop you.”
“If a man knows more than others, he becomes lonely.”
“Not everyone who makes you laugh is your friend.”
“To offend a strong man, tell him a lie; to offend a weak man, tell him the truth.”
